Paint manufacturers face a tough challenge to maintain product quality whilst reducing the level of VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) in line with stringent international environmental directives.
To meet these requirements manufacturers have to reduce or remove coalescent solvents. But this demands the use of softer, low MFFT binders, which in turn leads to softer, less durable coatings.
Many commonly used fillers are soft and do nothing to improve the durability of coatings. However, the use of hard mineral fillers such as MINEX® (our nepheline syenite-based filler) in combination with other fillers such as calcite or talc improves the wet scrub resistance of low VOC matt coatings formulated with soft resins.
